Apraxia has made me stronger in multiple ways. I started speech therapy when I was around 2 or 3 years old and continued to go until the sixth grade. When I was younger, people had a hard time understanding me. When they were unable to understand what I was saying, I would often use objects or colors to portray what I was saying. One of my biggest challenges is saying words with the letter “R”. I cannot roll my tongue all the way back, leading into anything I say sounding wrong. Around seventh grade, I noticed that my school offered a sign language class. I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to associate my words with signs, and I still use it until this day! I want to say thank you to my parents for finding me a school that accepts me for who I am, for putting me through speech therapy, and helping me enunciate words.
