If I could say anything to parents whose child is going into their school years it would be that, “Yes it is hard as you advocate and teach your child how to advocate to those who don’t understand or are just plain mean. However, it will all be worth it as you watch their apraxia give them the option to appreciate the differences that everyone has, to meet so many great therapists and people and eventually appreciate all the hard work you do to help them communicate. They are going to thrive.”

Something I would say to a young child with apraxia is, “Enjoy the experience. Enjoy the little wins. Enjoy how far you’ve come. Enjoy the grit and determination you have delight in the fact that you now know how to keep working at something no matter how hard because it does pay off.
