James Rising

James Rising, a young man, poses for a photo.

My main struggles growing up were people not understanding my speech at first.  Sometimes people would call me dumb, or think that I wasn’t intelligent enough.  It was up to me to prove them wrong.  Keeping a positive attitude has always been very important.  I had to remember that most of the time, people weren’t trying to be mean on purpose, they were just uninformed as to what Apraxia was.  This taught me to not judge people, without knowing their full story.  I enjoy being part of the Apraxia community, because when I was little I didn’t know anyone else with Apraxia.  I was 14 when I went to my first awareness walk and got to meet other kids with Apraxia.  I’m glad that I am able to meet other families, share my story, and show them that everything is going to be okay!
