My advice to young children with Apraxia is that they should not feel that they can’t do something because of Apraxia. If you put your mind to it, you can do anything. The most important thing you can do is to understand that Apraxia is not a weakness but requires a change in perspective, making you more patient and understanding of who you are. Also, you should be open to getting help when struggling because later down the line, you need to build a skill of advocating for yourself when required. Finally, gain confidence by believing in your success in school work or extracurricular activities.Facing challenges, such as having Apraxia, has made me stronger and given me opportunities to learn lessons I would have never learned without these challenges. For example, I had to find a way to be confident in myself and not view my Apraxia as a weakness but just part of who I am. Having Apraxia has helped me be more open-minded and understanding of others who have disabilities. It is best to focus on what people can do rather than what they struggle with.
