Ty Sandberg

Ty Sandberg - A teenager with curly hair stands in front of a beige wall, wearing a white "Walk for Apraxia 2022" T-shirt with colorful stars and text.

The biggest lesson I learned through my experience with Apraxia is the beauty of communication. Communicating/having the ability to create friendships and bonds with others was something I desperately yearned for much of my life. However, I was too insecure to talk to anyone at all, and I went effectively nonverbal for a period of time. Eventually, as I continued speech therapy, my ability to communicate improved to the point that I decided to try and communicate with others again. The incredible results of this taught me to not give up and let yourself hold you back from what could be.

Finally, Apraxia has taught me that I can overcome obstacles that seem impossible. I overcame that seemingly inescapable feeling of dread when someone would ask me to repeat myself, and I know I can overcome the future challenges I will face, all thanks to Apraxia.
